Harry Styles- Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh

Leaving the streets of Edinburgh covered in feathers and glitter from head to toe, Harry Styles hits the stage at Murrayfield Stadium for his sold out ‘Love On Tour’ show.

A year after his third studio album was released and he had performed for the Brits, Harry was overdue for another UK tour. We travelled to Edinburgh for the first night of his sold out Murrayfield shows to see if it is as electrifying as it’s rumoured to be.

Harry's band arrived at the raucous audience that they joined this evening at about 8:35. After a few moments, Harry himself hopped onto the stage to the beginning backing vocals of "Daydreaming," where he was greeted by tens of thousands of ecstatic fans. ‘What is he wearing?’ was undoubtedly a topic of discussion tonight and an important aspect of the show. Styles entered the stage decked out in black leather pants and a black top that showed a doughnut over his chest. Although Styles is known for his colourful, sparkly attire, it was clear that the audience appreciated this evening's appearance even though it wasn't what they had anticipated. “Tonight, please feel free to forget everybody else in order to finally be who you’ve always wanted to be,” he tells us shortly afterwards.

This tour ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ made its debut appearance since the breakup of One Direction back in 2016. Since Harry performed this song two weeks ago in Denmark, it has been trending highly on social media among fans. A sense of nostalgia struck everyone in the room today because the majority of those present knew Harry from One Direction and had followed his career since 2010.

If you have a sign, now is the moment to hold it up, Harry instructed the crowd after playing the megahits "She" and "Matilda." Styles scanned the audience as a young woman holding a sign caught his attention and asked him to reveal her baby's gender. Harry then remarked that he had just recognised how big this is after asking her how many months she is and her replying ‘seven’. He asked the band to play some music to accompany his checking of the letter that was enclosed with the answer in. Styles started chanting ‘I know something you don't know, I know something you don't know’. The crowd gathered together to drumroll as Harry announced ‘Tyler you’re going to have a little boy!’ The whole stadium cheered as such life changing news had just been announced to a lucky fan.

The classic "Satellite stomps" that have made this song so well-known to Harry fans occurred on stage as the set progressed. The crowd was told by Styles that he wanted everyone to sing Happy Birthday to an important person in his life. In response to Harry's request, the audience sang Happy Birthday to Stevie and then cheered.

In keeping with the One Direction theme, Harry covered "What Makes You Beautiful" after the entrance to "Best Song Ever" was previewed. As someone who has never seen Styles or One Direction, I found this to be my personal highlight of the evening because we got a crossover of both eras throughout this set.

The final four songs, "Fine Line," "Sign Of The Times," "As It Was," and "Kiwi," were like an emotional rollercoaster as he wrapped things off. The stadium changed from sobbing and swaying side to side with phone torches shining like a million stars to following the trend of screaming 'Leave America' at the top of their lungs, which has been said to be heard over a mile away, thanks to the dramatic acoustic tune from 'Fine Line' transitioning to the funky bass lines of 'As It Was'.

As someone who frequently attends concerts of various sizes, Harry Styles' mesmerising performance was simply remarkable. Harry is without a doubt a natural-born superstar who was destined to fill stadiums all over the world. It is amazing to see the journey this mega popstar has had from appearing on the X Factor at the age of 16 to becoming a member of one of the most well-known boy bands in the world to launching a solo career and amassing one of the largest fan bases in the world all in the space of 13 years. You can tell that he values each and every one of his fans. The sincere affection and admiration that Styles has for his fans is genuinely beautiful.
