Interview with Crystal Tides

Tell me a bit about yourself, what have you been up to over the past 12 months?

We are Crystal Tides, an indie pop/rock band from Portsmouth! Over the past 12 months we have been out performing shows all over the country including supporting Sundara Karma, The Lottery Winners & Feeder whilst releasing new music. The fans seem to keep coming back so that’s a good sign right?

Where did your bands name come from and how did you form?

The band name at the time was the only thing we could agree on. We spent weeks of discussing what it should be and it came down to Crystal Tides or Luck. We think we made the right choice…

We formed at the end of university, Billy and Harry spent their breaks writing music and it blossomed from there.

What has been the biggest highlight of making music so far?

Achieving national radio plays across the biggest stations like Radio 1, Radio X & 6 Music in the U.K. has been pretty special. However nothing will ever compare to the headline shows we’ve done in our hometown!

So how did you first get into making music?

I (Billy) used to sit in on my younger brothers guitar lessons and I ended up taking over the lessons. I then met some like minded friends at school and the teachers put us in for some gigs early on which forced us into the deep end of performing, but had it not been for that I may have waited for years before building up the courage to perform live!

How would you describe your sound?

Energetic and infectious!

What was the process like in recording your most recent 'Give It All'?

We actually recorded a lot of it ourselves at my home studio before working with our producer David. It’s a process that really worked for us this time as it gave us so much more control over how we wanted it to sound. Recording is an expensive part of being in a band so finding ways to make it work better for us is always a win. We are extremely happy with the outcome.

Overall, what is 'Give It All' about?

I started writing it about my wife who I just wanted to let know that even though I am out chasing my dream of being a musician she is still my person and I would give it all for her. It applied to all of us in the band, leaving our partners at home for constant touring takes its toll on relationships but they’re all so supportive and we couldn’t do it without them.

If 'Give It All' could be in a film, which film would you choose?

Something light hearted and fun… Shrek would be perfect.

If you could choose any celebrity to feature in a music video for 'Give It All', which celebrity would you go for?

Danny Dyer would be a laugh

What can your listeners expect from your upcoming music?

More energy, more emotion.

What's next for you as a band?

We have an EP out in September and to support that we are out on our biggest UK headline tour to date! It’s going to be massive and we can’t wait.
