Interview with L'objectif-Leeds Festival

Tell me a bit about yourselves, what have you been up to over the past 12 months?

The past 12 months, what have we been doing? We've been to Europe, we've supported Alfie Templeman on tour, we've been to Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, we supported The Strokes a couple of days ago, Reading and Leeds, Ynot festival and Boardmasters.

Where did your bands name come from and how did you form?

Band name came from French lessons and like the objective of today's lesson in French is L'objectif, just looking at that everyday and just thought it was a cool title and Dan's half French so we get away with it. How did we form? Me and Louis started the band when we were like 12 and then Dan is Louis' mate from nursery, I don't know how that happened but yeah and then Ezra is our best mate who went on and became the best bassist on the planet and then just joined together.

Whilst you've been on tour, what has been your favourite city you have played in?

Glasgow was pretty good, Leeds is good, Glasgow is proper top. Just everywhere is god, we love every city. Newcastle was good, we had a great time in Worthing. We've had a few London shows which we've absolutely adored, we played with Everything Everything in the Roundhouse in London, that was like a dream come true that, that was crazy.

Do you have any pre-gig rituals and if so, what are they?

We just get into a little huddle usually before and try and hype each other up. It doesn't last long because usually we're late to get on stage so it's probably like 10 seconds long, throwing each other around and then getting on stage.

How would you describe your music to someone that hasn't heard it before?

I just say indie but it's a bit cringe but yeah it is indie. Alternative, guitar, dancey, fun little pop guitar. Little bit of singing, little bit of drums, everything's in there.

If you could join anyone on stage that is on the leeds lineup this year, who would it be?

`Just out of nostalgia I'd probably say that yours would be The Killers. Mine and Ezra's probably The 1975, we like Inhaler as well, they're good. Central Cee would be cool, see if we're a good match and probably Yung Lean is top.

What's been the funniest thing that has happened whilst touring or performing?

Nothing we can say on camera, we genuinely can't say. Just shoutout our dear friend James for always amusing us.

What's next for you as a band?

Just new music really, we've finished it all so it's just rolling it out and doing anything and everything. Just getting the name out there and hoping that people like the music, trying to meet new people and go to new places and spread the word basically, that's probably the plan.
