Interview with Spencer Elmer-A Stone's Throw Festival

Tell me a bit about yourself, what have you been up to over the past 12 months?

Amazing! So I'm Spencer Elmer, I make music and I've been making music for like 4 years now. The last year has been good, this is the first year that I've taken music seriously. Been in the studio lots and lots and lots, making lots of songs. Yeah this is my first ever festival so I'm really excited to be here.

So since this is you're first ever festival, what would you're dream festival to play at be?

Damn, I'd say Glastonbury in this country. I think Glasto would be really really sick so it's a pretty decent aim.

So we are aware that you recently released a new track 'ick', do you wanna tell us a bit of the background story on it, the recording and the meaning?

I feel like I've dated a few girls in the past few years that feel the 'ick', I actually don't like the term myself I'll be completely honest with you. I feel like it's something that I get reminded of all the time when I do supid things. I thought it was kind of a fun spin on talking about how silly it is that people our age find people walking round or doing something silly and then get completely turned off by it. So I was like, why not make a song about it!

If 'ick' could be any film, which film would it be in?

If 'ick' could be in any film? Shrek!

If you could have any celebrity to feature in the music video for 'ick', who would it be?

Any celebrity? Are we going for Shrek as well? I'm going to say Chris Rock.

Do you have any pre-gig rituals and if so, what are they?

Pre gig, have a few drinks, have a few beers. I think that's pretty standard. Just being around good company, I think that's the main thing.

If you could describe your sound in 3 words, what would they be?

Fun, honest, transparent.

So we know you started off with both YouTube and music, so how did that develop and grow into eachother?

Okay, so i've always kind of made music, I use to play at little festivals when I was really young. I feel like probably about 4/5 years ago I started filming the process of making music and since then we had a really good song that did quite well a few years back so I decided to take it a little more seriously. I've really enjoyed it since then.

If you could collab with any artist on stage, who would it be and what song would you choose?

Just for the madness I'm going to say something like...oh damn okay. I'm going to say 'Crush' featuring Miley Cyrus because I love her.

What's next for you as an artist?

We've got a few really cool festivals this year, can we announce it yet? Probably not but we've got a few really cool festivals this summer that I'm really excited to play. I think it's just having more fun, learning loads and releasing more consistently. Working on the sounds, working with new people and just having fun to be honest.
