Tell me a bit about yourselves, what have you been up to over the past 12 months?
The past 12 months we've been writing an EP, writing an album, recording an EP, recording an album. We went on a big tour in May and we've just been playing festivals over the summer. We have been putting out singles from our new record and that comes out at the end of September.
Where did your bands name come from and how did you form?
We all went to high school together, the other guys were the year above me. We played in different bands and stuff, after high school the people who still wanted to play music ended up in a band and stuff. We just came up with the name just because we heard somewhere that its good to have a band with two syllables so people can chant along 'Vistas' not that that has ever happened. Its a pretty lame name choice.
So obviously you have recently released a couple of singles, what was the process behind recording them?
So we went to Liverpool last December, we were in a new studio called Kempston Street and just literally recorded it from the 1st December until the 22nd, just pretty much went home for Christmas. And yeah, just got it mixed at the start of the year as we've always done, we just kind of like to have a consistent flow.
How would you describe your single to people who haven't heard it?
A bit like moodier than some of our other stuff, bit heavier, wee bit stuff like that. Its got a bit of a 2000s like a little bit of My Chemical Romance but still like an indie band, just a slight emo song.
What has been a standout festival that you have played?
We actually played at Leeds fest 2021, I think it was the Thursday night on a Festival Republic stage and that was like a headliner that night, we can technically say we headlined Leeds Fest. That was a really good gig because we weren't really prepared and loads of people came because there was nothing else on. It was just madness, there was lots of flares in the crowd, it was just chaos and that was really fun for me. We did TRNSMT 2021 as well, that was our first main stage thing so that was pretty like a really good memory. Those festivals are always crazy like Leeds and TRNSMT.
If you could join any artist on stage at Leeds this year, who would it be?
Jamie would say Central Cee. It would be great to play Mr Brightside with the Killers, that would be unreal. That's the one for sure.
Who would you want to do a secret set at Leeds?
The Future islands are playing up in Edinburgh and they are one of our favourite bands so it would be class to see them. I think that they would do a secret set. Turnstiles are playing in the UK and I think they played in Manchester last night.
What are your pre gig/festival rituals?
It's weird because we kind of don't really have one, we just pace a little bit and chat together. Make sure we all go for a pee so that we don't pee ourselves. That is kind of as far as it goes.
What has been your favourite city crowd?
I mean it's very hard to beat a Scottish crowd but I think Birmingham crowds are very underrated, you always get a really good gig in Birmingham. Especially Manchester and Leeds as well. Our favourite is probably Glasgow, people would kill us if we didn't say that.
What's the funniest thing that has happened whilst touring/performing?
Well in one of our early gigs, Dylan almost, well let's not say died but came very close to something bad happening. It was in one of these big event spaces and in the first song, I looked over at Dylan and then a big lightbulb the size of a pineapple was falling from the ceiling, like towards Dylan. It missed him by like a foot, maybe even less, to be fair I didn't even know, I thought someone threw a bottle. Don't know if that's funny or not.
What's next for you?
Our next album is coming out at the end of September, we've got a tour planned in November. We're doing all the big cities like Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow and then a few other places in-between, hopefully we're coming somewhere near you.
