Sea Girls - Rock City, Nottingham

On the first date of their UK Hometown Tour, Sea Girls took stage at one of multiple sold out venues, Rock City in Nottingham.

The second they stepped on stage to the opening riffs of ‘Damage Done’ you could see the happiness and love they were feeling from the atmosphere rising across their expressions. Front man, Henry Camamile made his entrance on stage, shortly after the rest of the band, waving his arms in the air setting the crowd off into roars of screams. After watching the band play at two festivals over the summer, Truck Festival and 110 Above Festival, you can feel a definite difference in atmosphere here, in comparison to their festival performances. There was a much more intimate feel and even better response from the crowd this time around.

Two songs into the set, Henry took a minute to say a few words thanking the crowd for being there tonight and to kick the tour off with a good time. Camamile also made a point about Sea Girls gigs being a safe space for women and if you step out of line you get ID’d, thrown out and the police phoned on you. The crowd cheered for these four lads as this is something not every band will point out and make awareness off so it was welcoming to know this band cares about their crowds.

The band played their new, recently released single, ‘Falling Apart’ which has also been used on new FIFA 23 soundtrack. Considering the song is only two months old, the crowd sang every lyric, word for word. From their debut album ‘Open Up Your Head’, which was released back in 2020, Henry played an electric solo version of the song ‘Transplant’. Although it was not the usual upbeat version of the song, it still managed to get the crowd raring up for what was being played next.

A highlight of the night, in my opinion, was when the 4 piece played ‘Violet’. Violet coloured lights appropriately shone over the crowd leaving fans mesmerised over the performance of the song. Seeing Sea Girls in the past, they've always opened up their set with the song ‘Sick’, however this tour, the tune was played mid set. I do feel this song is much more fitting as an opener to build the excitement, but it is clear that it is still a fan favourite no matter .

As usual, the band left the stage for their encore and a few minutes after an outburst of cheers coming from the crowd, the band made their way back onto the stage. The fans of Sea Girls came together as the opening guitar riffs and vocals of ‘All I Want To Hear You Say’ rang out into the Rock City crowd. Lead singer, Henry thanked the crowd for joining them tonight before closing off their 21 song set with ‘Call Me Out’. This tune opened up mosh pits within the crowd, with singing louder than the actual band. Sea Girls left the crowd rowdy, sweaty and ready for the next time the 4 piece comes back to their hometown again.
