The 1975- Leeds Festival

The 1975 performed their self-titled album in its entirety for the 80,000 spectators at Leeds Festival as the 10 year anniversary of their debut album approached.

Although the four-piece indie rock band has been active for 20 years, it was almost time for the 10th anniversary of their debut album, and what better way to mark the occasion than by headlining Leeds Festival. The crowd was able to travel back in time to 2013 thanks to their show, which was remarkably similar to their intimate performance from back in February at Gorilla in Manchester. As 8:40pm drew near, the lights lowered and their iconic box logo lit up on stage, generating excitement among the audience as the opening notes of The 1975, the album's first tune, echoed across Bramham Park dressed in their old fashioned of leather jackets.

The band transported everyone back to a time when fishnets, docs, and Tumblr were the catch by playing classic songs including "Chocolate," "Sex," and "Heart Out." Standing in the middle of the audience at Leeds, we noticed that regardless of who you are, what you think about The 1975, or what kind of music you like, everyone quickly perks up as they hear the opening electric guitar riff of "Robbers," and everyone joins in to sing the famous line "Now Everybody's Dead" as frontman, Healy, drops to his knees holding a bottle of wine and a cigarette.

As the can opening sound effect plays immediately after Matty says, "I'm not sure that I would write this song in 2023 ladies and gentlemen," their smash song "Girls" gives everyone déjà vu as Healy leaps around the stage towards his fellow band mates Adam Hann, Ross Macdonald, and George Daniel. Healy announces to the crowd 'Ladies and Gentlemen if tonight doesn't itch your brain then we are going on tour in the UK in February' which shocked many fans and led them to roars of screams.

They end the self titled segment with "Pressure," which can only suggest that some of their biggest festival hits will soon be performed in the second half. The band presents the following part of their performance as relating to their current tour 'At Their Very Best' as they went right in with their classic 'Its Not Living If It's Not With You) from their 3rd studio album in 2018. The crowd was taken through a rundown of some hits from their second, fourth, and fifth studio albums, which featured singles like "Happiness," "If You're Too Shy (Let Me know)," and "Somebody Else," were played during the final portion of their performance.

The four indie rockers finished their concert with "About You," off their most recent album "being Funny In A Foreign Language," which everyone once again sung along to word for word. This song is one of their more well-known and beloved by their fans. We noticed a lot of fans hoping for the band to play the festival favourite 'People' which we were also hoping to experience tonight. The 1975 have once again demonstrated their mastery of the rock performance, whether it be by performing songs from their most recent albums or going back ten years to perform some of the masterpieces that got them into this mess in the first place.
